As 2011 comes to a close, we thought it would be interesting to see which dogs and dog names were most popular during the year using a random sampling of our new customers. Any guesses at the top names and breeds?
First, let's look back at the 2010 results. Top breeds (which all include mixes) were Labs, Goldens, Huskies, and Yorkshire Terriers. Top name was clear with "Buddy" and runners up included "Bailey", "Bella", "Lola" and "Sadie".
For 2011, the clear breed winner is Lab and Lab mixes. The runner up of Terrier Mixes barely edged out last years second place Golden Mixes.
The top dog female name was a tie of "Molly" (one of which was installed the day of the writing of this blog) and "Sophie". Top boys names were tied with "Jack" and "Oscar". And we are proud to say that the OSU pride finally kicked in this year as "Buckeye" won the vote for a name that could "go either way", if you will.
Curious how Columbus compares nationally? Mabye not, but we were. According to the Huffington Post, nationally "Bella" was the number one dog name. "Molly" ranked number seven, "Sophie" ranked number fifteen, and "Jack" ranked number eighteen. "Buckeye" did not rank nationally because those outside of the Buckeye state obviously have no taste whatsoever.
We hope you found this interesting and we at DogWatch of Columbus wish you all the best for 2012. And why not make this the year you committ to keeping YOUR dog safe at home, yet free to roam. Give us a call or fill out our contact form for a free in-yard estimate.
