Being a leader in the dog industry, we thought it would be an interesting study to see which names and breeds seemed to be most popular with our customers here in Central Ohio. When we took our guesses, we figured Scarlet and Buckeye would be on the top of the list for obvious reasons. What we discovered however, was very surprising.
The clear winner for number one name is Lucy. The number two spot was tied three ways with Tucker, Max and Daisy. And the number three spot was also tied three ways with Bailey, Gracie and Scout. Unfortunately our OSU favorite names did not make this year’s cut, but we’re hopeful for 2010.
Next was our study to see what the top breeds trained to our hidden fences were. Labs and Lab Mixes were number one just by a dog’s hair. Golden Retrievers took a very close number two spot. Number three looked like a toss up, but Beagles and Beagle Mixes edged out as the winner.
Designer breeds were hot this year too as we saw many Cock-a-Poos, Peek-a-Poos, Puggles, Schnoodles, Labradoodles, Goldendoodles and Shepadoodles. The Labradoodles and Goldendoodles came out on top in this category. Can’t wait to see what the new and hot designer breed is for 2010.
How does Columbus compare nationally, you might ask? We pulled a list off of Squidoo.com and they said the top three names were Max, Buddy and Molly. The top three breeds nationally were Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Yorkshire Terriers. So Columbus ranked similar to national in dog breed choices, but we obviously like our dog names to be unique.
